Commercial Analyst - Marketing
Port Melbourne, VIC, AUSTRALIA
About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a Commercial Analyst – Marketing to connect marketing activity with commercial performance. This newly created role reports directly to our GM – Marketing, and offers the opportunity to shape how we measure, analyse, and optimise marketing initiatives.
You’ll work across traditional and digital marketing channels, loyalty programs, online transactions, and promotional activities, providing data-driven insights to improve campaign effectiveness, customer engagement, and ROI. With your strong retail and finance expertise, you’ll help to refine marketing strategy and drive positive commercial outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
- Analyse marketing campaigns across online, digital, in-store, and trade channels — tracking reach, frequency, impressions, click-through, engagement, and sales impact.
- Combine multiple datasets to produce actionable insights for marketing and merchandising, including product category performance, profit, and return.
- Support customer segmentation, loyalty analysis, and targeting strategies.
- Evaluate promotional uplift and recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Build commercial models to assess campaign ROI, discount effectiveness, and spend efficiency.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Excel, Power BI, Phocas or similar tools.
- Collaborate with marketing, merchandising, digital, and finance teams to align insights and strategy.
- Assist with budget tracking, forecasting, and business case preparation for marketing initiatives.
You are likely to be a match if you have
- 3–5 years’ experience in a commercial or business analyst role, ideally in a retail environment.
- Finance or accounting background (CPA qualified or Big 4 consultancy experience highly regarded).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage large datasets and translate them into clear recommendations.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Phocas, or Cognos.
- Ability to write and interpret code for data manipulation and analysis (e.g. SQL, Python, or R) is desirable but not essential.
- Understanding of digital marketing metrics (reach, frequency, impressions, CTR) and loyalty program analytics.
- Ability to explain complex data to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail.
