About the Opportunity

 

As the General Manager Commercial, you’ll play a critical leadership role within the Total Tools & Hardware Group, responsible for developing and executing our commercial growth strategy across key market segments. This is a senior position that requires a highly strategic thinker who can balance big-picture planning with hands-on execution.

You’ll lead all aspects of commercial operations — from managing high-value client accounts and strategic partnerships to overseeing tenders, bids, and contract negotiations. Your focus will be on identifying and leveraging growth opportunities across government, corporate, trade, and sponsorship channels, while ensuring commercial activities align with broader business objectives.

Working closely with internal teams — including merchandise, marketing, operations, and finance — you’ll ensure our commercial offering is competitive, scalable, and aligned to the needs of our network of independently owned stores. You’ll also lead and mentor a high-performing commercial team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and customer focus.

This is a role with national reach, commercial impact, and the opportunity to shape the future direction of one of Australia’s most respected retail groups.

 

What you will be doing

 

  • Lead the development and implementation of commercial strategies aligned with the group’s vision
  • Own the profitability and growth of commercial accounts and strategic partnerships
  • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including C-suite clients and government bodies
  • Oversee commercial tenders, bids, and contracts while identifying new business opportunities
  • Collaborate with the merchandise team to optimise product range and inventory for commercial clients
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing Commercial team
  • Foster strong internal collaboration across marketing, finance, and operations

 

You’re likely a match if you are/have

  • Proven experience in a senior sales, commercial, or business development leadership role
  • Demonstrated success in building and growing a commercial business
  • Strong negotiation skills and a track record of building strategic partnerships
  • Relevant qualifications in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
