About the role:

Reporting to the GM, Safety, Healthy & Environment, the primary focus of this role is to provide Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) leadership and support to all Metcash teams operating within WA. 

The role is required to proactively drive implementation of the SHE strategy and the deployment of practices which support legislative requirements. Build capability within all levels of Metcash's leadership, foster effective workforce and trade partner enagement and drive continuous improvement.


What you’ll do:

  • Provide advice and support to senior level management and business pillars regarding SHE and Injury Management programs, policies and processes
  • Ensure SHE processes are implemented, establishing a culture of "Safety as a Core Value"
  • Work with the National Injury Management Advisor to set the strategy for WA, initial self insurance, longer term third-party insurance and workers compensation claims management 
  • Proactively manage SHE risk, coach and build this capability in the team, including training needs analysis and delivery
  • Foster the identification of hazards, near misses and discomfort reporting for prompt investigation, monitor incident and injury reporting to ensure a consistent approach to incident classifcations and investigations
  • Provide accurate and insightful reporting to key stakeholders
  • Conduct annual audits to verify behaviours are aligned with the Safety Management System and Environment Management systems and procedures
  • Review and develop action plans to address observations and non-conformances from audits to achieve continous improvement 


What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in safety leadership
  • Tertiary qualifications in SHE or a related discipline
  • Certifcations - ICAM Lead Investigator, SHE Lead Auditor, Return to Work Co-ordinator
  • Certifcate IV in Training & Assessment
  • Proven capability in Injury/Claims Management
  • Proven abilty to work effectively with line management to build capability and safety leadership
  • Innovative thinking with a solutions focus
  • Proficiency in software programs, database management and Microsoft applications
