About the role:

Area Sales Manager is a trusted adviser and business partner to retailers, forming a symbiotic relationship to drive retailer sales, profitability, compliance, and ultimately, success. This role ‘owns’ the relationship with the retailer store, and is the primary contact for all interactions with Metcash. The role also works closely with the Retail Operations teams.


What you'll do:

  • Build and develop relationships with retailers, becoming the single-point of contact for retailers at the store level
  • Liaise with buyers, inventory and logistics to resolve stock issues
  • Provide business support, assisting with business planning, store strategy, budgeting and commercial decisions to ensure stores’ success
  • Advise on new lines, ranging, ticketing, catalogue compliance and identify wholesale sales opportunities
  • Use available shoppers’ and stores’ data to advise on additional range opportunities
  • Advise on store improvement activities, and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Support debanner, retailer onbarding/offboarding  
  • Act as conduit point to convey brand/promo information, and other Metcash retailer strategies
  • Represent retailers’ positions and feedback their needs and requests
  • Recommend product or service enhancements to improver retailer satisfaction and sales


What you'll bring:

  • Grocery retail management knowledge and sales experience in the retail supermarket sector at store-manager or multi-site level
  • Strong understanding of Fresh & Produce in terms of food safety and compliance, product knowledge etc
  • Expertise in drawing consumer and store insights from data to inform and conduct business management, strategic planning, and problem-solving in the retailer supermarket sector
  • Influencing skills and ability to rapidly establish trust and build relations with retailers (owners and managers)
  • Demonstrate effective promotional and sales skills, with a strong track record of meeting aggressive or exceeding sales targets
  • Ability to convince, persuade, and close successful deals
