About the Opportunity
Are you passionate about logistics and supply chain operations? Metcash is looking for a highly organised and proactive Primary Freight Coordinator to manage and streamline the movement of ambient freight across our network.
In this vital role, you’ll be responsible for coordinating the end-to-end freight journey from scheduling pickups to ensuring on-time delivery of goods all while maintaining strict quality and compliance standards. Reporting to the Primary Freight Operations Manager, you’ll play a key part in keeping our freight operations running smoothly.
In this Role
- Manage the end-to-end coordination of both ambient and temperature controlled freight deliveries from Metcash suppliers to our distribution centres, ensuring smooth and efficient transport
- Work closely with carriers, suppliers, and internal Metcash teams to optimise freight routes and guarantee on-time deliveries
- Oversee timely and accurate preparation of freight documentation, identify and resolve discrepancies, manage billing and invoicing, track KPIs, and coordinate receipt and handover processes
- Implement and maintain strict quality control measures to ensure the integrity of freight throughout the supply chain
- Stay informed of and enforce compliance with industry regulations and Metcash policies related to the handling and transportation of goods
- Maintain precise records of freight operations and generate regular performance reports to identify opportunities for improvement
- Build and nurture strong working relationships with freight carriers and key stakeholders, supporting ongoing business development initiatives
- Uphold the highest standards of workplace safety and compliance to ensure safe, efficient operations for employees, customers, and vendors
- Ensure full compliance with Chain of Responsibility obligations in all freight activities
You’re Likely a Match If
- 5+ years in a freight coordinator or related role
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
- Experience in freight, logistics and/or supply chain, including best practice methodologies
- Experience using transport management systems
- In-depth understanding of warehouse and transportation management
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
