About the Opportunity 

The AI Developer / Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying AI solutions that address key business challenges across Metcash. This role combines deep technical expertise with a growing focus on business engagement, enabling the successful candidate to contribute to both the development and strategic integration of AI technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in cloud and AI engineering and a passion for expanding into advisory and stakeholder-facing responsibilities. 

In this Role 

•    Design and develop AI models and solutions using modern cloud platforms and tools. 
•    Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical deliverables. 
•    Build and maintain scalable AI infrastructure and pipelines. 
•    Conduct testing, validation, and quality assurance of AI solutions. 
•    Support deployment and integration of AI products into production environments. 
•    Engage in prompt engineering and coding to refine AI outputs. 
•    Participate in ideation and solution design alongside product owners and business teams. 
•    Contribute to AI governance, risk management, and compliance efforts. 
•    Continuously improve AI capabilities through experimentation and learning.

You’re Likely a Match If 

•    Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field; certifications in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and AI/ML are a plus.
•    Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of machine learning, Generative AI, data engineering, and hands-on experience deploying AI solutions in cloud environments.
•    Development Practices: Familiarity with MLOps, DevOps, software development best practices, and model performance optimization.
•    AI Governance: Understanding of ethical AI principles and governance frameworks.
•    Analytical Skills: Proven problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
•    Communication & Collaboration: Effective communicator with experience working in agile, cross-functional teams
•    Growth Mindset: Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn non-technical skills and expand into business advisory roles.
•    Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with AI applications in retail, supply chain, or finance is advantageous.
