About the Opportunity
The AI Product Owner will lead the development and delivery of AI solutions across Metcash, bridging the gap between business needs and technical capabilities.
This role is pivotal in shaping AI strategy, driving innovation, and embedding AI into business-as-usual operations.
The ideal candidate will combine advisory experience with a growing technical skillset, enabling them to guide ideation, design, and execution of AI initiatives that support Metcash’s independent retail partners, while also rolling up sleeves to develop solutions hands-on.
In this Role
• Define and own AI solution vision and roadmap for use cases.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, scope, and prioritise AI use cases.
• Lead cross-functional teams through the lifecycle of AI product development—from ideation to deployment.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and ensure successful delivery.
• Engage with technology partners to evaluate and integrate AI platforms.
• Champion AI literacy and governance across the organisation.
• Help with testing, quality assurance, coding and cloud engineering tasks to build technical proficiency.
• Monitor performance of AI solutions and drive continuous improvement
• Help develop and ensure compliance with AI risk and governance frameworks.
You’re Likely a Match If
• Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; postgraduate certifications in AI, Data Science, or Product Management are a plus.
• Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of AI technologies, cloud platforms, and data analytics; exposure to AI solution development and cloud engineering.
• Methodologies: Familiarity with agile practices and product lifecycle management; experience delivering digital or AI-enabled projects.
• Strategic Thinking: Strong business acumen with the ability to manage ambiguity and drive clarity in complex environments.
• Communication Skills: Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration, including IT, data science, and business teams.
• Problem Solving: Analytical mindset with proven problem-solving capabilities and a track record in consulting, advisory, or product ownership.
• Learning & Adaptability: Willingness to learn technical skills such as coding or prompt engineering; adaptable in fast-paced environments.
• Domain Knowledge: Experience in retail, supply chain, or finance domains is advantageous.
