About the Opportunity

We are on the lookout for a Demand Manager, IT Controls based in Macquarie Park on a fixed term contract with a view for possible extension and/or conversion to perm.

 

The Demand Manager is instrumental in guiding new initiatives through the early stages of Metcash’s delivery lifecycle. Focused on Corporate teams (Finance, People & Culture, Legal), the role bridges business and IT—driving stakeholder engagement, assessing business needs, and ensuring initiatives are well-governed and ready for delivery.

 

In this Role

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with Corporate stakeholders in Finance, HR, Legal or any assigned portfolio
  • Bridge communication between Business and IT
  • Run regular engagement sessions and help define business needs

Business Needs Assessment

  • Develop and refine Idea and Discovery Briefs
  • Facilitate initial assessments of business needs, pain points, and opportunities for technology enablement.
  • Collaborate with Corporate partners to quantify business value and articulate clear success metrics
  • Help prioritize initiatives based on strategy, value and urgency

Governance & Delivery Support

  • Follow Metcash’s Delivery Success Method
  • Ensure initiatives meet governance and documentation standards
  • Represent Corporate in portfolio reviews and governance forums
  • Guide initiatives through intake and readiness processes

Communication & Reporting

  • Provide timely updates on progress, risks, and next steps
  • Create reports and dashboards for leadership
  • Support smooth handover to delivery teams

Risk & Issue Management

  • Identify and escalate risks or scope changes early
  • Support impact assessments during early initiative stages

Other Responsibilities

  • Facilitate workshops and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Support knowledge sharing within delivery teams
  • Handle change requests and assess business impacts

Key Skills

  • Strong relationship-building across Business teams and IT.
  • Clear, business-friendly communication of complex concepts.
  • Skilled facilitator of workshops and scope definition.
  • Structured approach to assessing business needs and opportunities.
  • Effective in navigating ambiguity and early-stage governance.
  • Excellent coordination and multitasking abilities.
  • Proactive problem-solving with risk identification and resolution.

Technical & Business Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Finance, HR, and Legal enterprise systems.
  • Experience with project and portfolio management tools.
  • Solid grasp of IT portfolio management frameworks.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies and their business impact.

Experience

  • 5–7 years in business engagement, portfolio management, or similar roles.
  • Background in wholesale, retail, or FMCG is a plus.
  • Proven stakeholder relationship success.
  • Experience in business case development and investment justification.
  • Exposure to digital project enablement or PMO/Portfolio teams is advantageous.
