About the Opportunity
Are you a strategic marketing leader with a passion for transforming planning processes and building high-performing capability across teams? Metcash is seeking a Planning and Capability Lead to drive the annual marketing plan, lead media strategy, and spearhead marketing capability development across our Food business.
This is an influential role that requires working across multiple stakeholders—including internal marketing teams, agency partners, and suppliers—to deliver end-to-end channel planning, optimise investment ROI, and uplift team capability. You’ll lead a wide range of planning and governance initiatives while championing excellence in brand identity and marketing delivery.

In this Role
Planning
- Lead the Shopper, Brand, and Loyalty (SBL) annual planning process, aligning with shopper experience and media transformation roadmaps.
- Partner with the Integrated Planning Manager to ensure SBL input is represented in enterprise-wide planning.
- Own and execute the annual media strategy, media block plan, and partner with agencies on transformation roadmaps.
- Govern the delivery of brand identity and marketing plan execution.
- Support shopper marketing activation plans, including RMN and Loyalty, in collaboration with suppliers.
- Leverage insights from QBRs and market mix modelling to optimise performance and investment.
Capability
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive capability plan for the SBL team in partnership with Senior Leaders and P&C Learning.
- Improve internal and agency partner collaboration and processes (“agency village” ways of working).
- Establish and maintain a calendar of ongoing education and inspiration for paid, owned, and earned media.
- Promote marketing governance, applying best practices across the board.
You’re Likely a Match If
- You bring 10+ years' experience in insights, brand management, capability, preferably within retail or FMCG marketing.
- Proven track record of developing and delivering marketing strategies that maximise ROI and effectiveness.
- Strong media strategy, planning, and budget management skills.
- Deep understanding of shopper behaviour, market mix modelling, and performance measurement.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Passionate about team capability building and embedding marketing best practices.
- Strong commercial acumen and comfort interpreting insights to drive performance.
- Adept at managing multiple projects and leading cross-functional initiatives autonomously.
- Resilient, collaborative, curious, and proactive mindset with strong problem-solving ability.
