About the Opportunity 


We have an exciting new opportunity to join Metcash as our appointed Privacy Officer. In this role you will be responsible for the privacy function at Metcash, including the provision of legal advice and support on privacy matters.  

This role can be considered full time or permanent part time (4 days per week)

 

In this Role 


•    Lead and implement Metcash Group’s privacy uplift program and ensure ongoing compliance with privacy obligations.
•    Act as a subject matter expert to support operational compliance with privacy reforms.
•    Develop policies, standards, guidelines, and documentation related to privacy.
•    Create and implement privacy risk management frameworks within the broader Metcash Business Resilience and Risk Management policies.
•    Serve as the primary contact for reporting actual or potential data breaches, assess notification requirements, and submit notifications to regulators.
•    Monitor the privacy@metcash.com email account.
•    Act as the liaison between Metcash and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
•    Manage privacy-related complaints, develop training, and stay updated on legal developments in privacy. Support the Privacy Champion in executing related activities.
•    Providing legal advice and support relating to privacy in business units and corporate functions as requested. 

 

You’re Likely a Match If 


•    LLB (or equivalent)
•    7+ years PQE in private practice and/or in-house roles, with 3+ years’ experience in privacy related roles
•    Excellent general commercial and advisory legal skills
•    Deep knowledge of and expertise in the legal and regulatory landscape in Australia (and other jurisdictions, as applicable) in relation to areas of privacy law, regulation and compliance obligations (new and existing)
•    High commercial acumen and influential skills
•    Responsive, efficient and outcomes focussed
