Metcash is seeking a Senior Finance Manager – Merchandise & Marketing to lead the end-to-end finance function for these two critical areas within our Food division. This high-impact leadership role will oversee forecasting, budgeting, commercial analysis, and project delivery, while managing a team of five finance professionals.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional leaders across Merchandise, Marketing, Commercial, Supply Chain, and Technology to provide strategic finance support that drives performance. In this Role
- Lead and own the full FP&A process across Merchandise and Marketing, including month-end close, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Deliver clear, data-driven performance insights by state, supplier, and promotional activity.
- Analyse and monitor gross margins, earn rates, and other key drivers of commercial income.
- Partner with the Merchandise team to proactively identify risks, manage inventory revaluations, and support performance improvements.
- Lead the half-year and full-year audit processes for these functional areas.
- Play a key role in Project Horizon by supporting design, testing, and transition activities—ensuring finance requirements are embedded and business readiness is achieved.
- Provide commercial support and analysis for strategic initiatives and macro business decisions.
- Develop and mentor a team of five, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with merchandise, marketing and shared services to ensure seamless execution and minimise errors
You’re Likely a Match If
- You have 10+ years of experience in merchandising finance, commercial analysis, or related roles—ideally in FMCG or retail.
- You hold an Accounting degree and are CA or CPA qualified.
- You’re confident in managing large data sets and have strong technical skills in Excel, TM1, Power BI, or Microsoft D365 (experience with Power Query and PowerPivot a plus).
- You’re a proactive leader with a track record of developing teams and working cross-functionally to solve complex business problems.
- You’re known for your ability to simplify complexity, communicate with impact, and work well with senior stakeholders across finance and non-finance functions.
- You’re comfortable working in ambiguity, thrive under pressure, and can prioritise effectively in fast-moving environments.
- You bring a strong sense of curiosity, a detail-oriented approach, and a passion for commercial excellence.
