About the Opportunity

We’re looking for a driven and future-focused Account Manager to join our Food team.  In this role, you’ll manage a portfolio of independent retail accounts, acting as a trusted advisor and primary relationship lead.  You’ll drive sustainable growth, build strong partnerships, and deliver commercial outcomes that support both Metcash and our retailers.

 

This role sits at the heart of our independent retail network, supporting stores with strategic planning, operational excellence, and commercial growth. You’ll be the trusted advisor and relationship lead for a portfolio of retailers, helping them thrive in their local communities.

 

In this Role

  • Own and manage a defined customer portfolio, adapting to changing market conditions, customer needs, and competitive dynamics.
  • Lead key account management and delivery, ensuring strong alignment between trade strategy, customer expectations, and commercial outcomes.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain Joint Business Plans (JBPs) aligned to customer and Metcash strategies.
  • Drive revenue, margin, and growth through effective pricing, promotional, and activation strategies, optimising ROI and performance.
  • Execute high‑impact activation programs that drive conversion, visibility, and customer engagement.
  • Analyse market trends, customer insights, and performance data to identify risks, opportunities, and new growth initiatives.
  • Build trusted, influential relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, representing the business in commercial negotiations.
  • Identify and deliver growth opportunities, including state‑based marketing initiatives, activation sell‑in, and participation in key customer events such as Expo.

 

You’re Likely a Match If

  • Proven experience in account management, business development, or sales
  • Experience working with multi-site or franchise retailers
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of margin, pricing, and profitability
  • Knowledge of retail operations and store economics (e.g., CODB, compliance)
  • Strategic relationship management and influencing skills
  • Ability to translate insights into actionable strategies
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A collaborative, proactive, and customer-focused mindset
